7 Clever Space Saving Hacks

In the spirit of our 7 year Life in Jeneral Anniversary this May, we have put together a list of our most loved space-saving tips and tricks. We use these all the time in our clients homes, and swear by each and every one of them. One of the most commonly asked questions we get is about how to make the most out of smaller spaces, while still staying organized. We decided it was time to create a one-stop shop for all of our top recommended space saving hacks for your home! Find all of our highly praised, tried and true tips below :)

Add a Cart

One of our top recommendations for making the most of the space you have is adding a rolling cart to the area. Whether it’s a tiered cart or a pull-out drawer cart, this adds ample space to any area! If you are lacking drawer space or shelving in your bathroom, office, closet, etc. having a cart can truly maximize your storage opportunities. Find a few of our favorites below :)

Utilize a Back of The Door Organizer

Many of us are likely familiar with over the door organizers in some form. One of the most common space-savers of this kind are the over the door shoe organizers, where you can store your shoes in pockets on the back of your door rather than on racks or on the ground. Having a back of the door organizer can do wonders to elevate your space, by giving items a home that you previously may not have had space for. You may benefit from having a back of the door organizer in your pantry to store spices, jars, cans, or other items. This is also a great item to have in a closet or nursery for accessories or other baby items. The options are truly endless with where this product can be utilized, and it is a sure fire way to save some space in your home!

Go Vertical

We are constantly preaching about how impactful it is to use the vertical space that you have. While using vertical space is ideal, we know that it can be tricky to know exactly how to do this, especially when it’s so tempting to just toss items under the sink and leave them for later. With the right products, utilizing your vertical space and making the most of it can make a huge difference. Pull-out drawers are an amazing way to maximize your space. We love using the Elfa Drawers in closets and playrooms. They offer so much extra storage space, bringing ease and simplicity into your day by giving everything a home.

Use The Walls

Having a blank canvas can make this tip less obvious, but using your walls for storage can be really helpful, and also chic and stylish at the same time! Acrylic floating shelves are selling like crazy now, and it seems like everyone and their mother is hopping on this trend. Well, we’re here to recommend the same! Acrylic is known to be a great storage option because while it gets the job done, it keeps your space feeling open and minimalistic by not taking up any mental space. Floating shelves are the perfect space-saving opportunity for your books, skincare, makeup, accessories, and more! Not to mention we LOVE a good command hook as well. Whether it’s for hanging hats, scarves, belts, necklaces, or bags, command hooks are a great way to not only save space, but also provide decor accents for your home! They are also easy to remove, as they require no drilling or nailing, and keep your walls free of any damage.

Next Up - Cabinet Hacks

We know how tricky it can be to organize cabinets in the kitchen or bathroom, especially when they come in awkward shapes and sizes. Adding pull-out inserts like this spice rack or these shelves can amplify your storage opportunities. Stacking bins are also a great way to keep items contained, while still easily accessible in limited storage spaces. Another pro tip that we love is adding adhesive mounts to the back of cabinet doors. This can be a great way to add storage space to your home, by creating spaces for items like dishwasher tablets, parchment paper, hair accessories, and more.

Stackable Drawers

We could not leave out this one. We use this storage hack at nearly all of our clients' homes. It is especially useful under the sink or in closets. Stackable drawers are a must if you are looking to save space and implement smart storage solutions into your home. They are perfect for storing feminine hygiene products, travel items, backstock, hair tools, clothing accessories, and beyond. They also go along with our vertical space tip, too ;)

Add Risers

Finally, we have to talk all things risers. If you have a collection of mugs, pretty ceramics, or ample accessories that you love dearly and need a functional space for - we get you and we are here for you. Adding acrylic or wire risers to shelving can double your storage space instantly. This allows you to layer plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, shoes, or bags and create storage opportunities that didn’t before appear to be possible. This is a simple fix to a small space, that can double the space you have without actually changing the structure of your shelving. This way, you can have more space for the things that you love.

We are always on the hunt for small space hacks and ways to maximize the space you have, and these are a few of our tips and tricks that have withstood the test of time. Having limited storage space can be tricky, but it doesn’t have to be! We hope that a few of these hacks have inspired you to save space in your home, and that you will love them as much as we do! Let us know if you have any storage hacks that you already love using in your home - we would love to hear about them! Happy organizing :)
