Channeling Your Inner Virgo

It’s Virgo season, aka my favorite time of year, since September also happens to be my birthday month! Us Virgo babies are notorious for being organized, thriving on structure, and valuing a calm and serene environment. Whether or not you subscribe to horoscopes, I’d say that’s pretty indicative of my personality and why I started Life in Jeneral: to hone in on the skills I’ve developed and put them to use helping others simplify their lives. Virgos are said to be practical, think quickly on their feet, have a million and one ideas swimming in their brain, and pay attention to detail. No matter if you’re a Virgo baby too (hi birthday twin!), or if your 2021 birthday has long passed, it’s time to channel your inner Virgo! Here are 5 tips to embrace the Type A side of your personality while it’s still Virgo season:

01 Give everything a place & plan your space with intention

Virgos have a keen spatial awareness, and we’re always looking for a way to keep things organized. The most important thing to remember when I say that is that organized does not equal clean, neat, or tidy. What it refers to, rather, is the critical thinking and intention that goes into planning where items should live in our space. The reason I love organizing so much is because knowing where your things are and giving each one intentional space to be, and generally adding structure into your surroundings, can simplify your entire routine. Creating systems that truly make sense for your lifestyle, the things you do, and how you operate is practically Virgo 101. Give yourself grace as you shift your thinking in this way, and please remember that getting organized does not mean striving for perfection.

02 Pay attention to the little details in your routine

One characteristic that people use to describe Virgos is particularity. To embody this quality, take a step back at the things you do on a daily basis, for yourself and others. Do they make you feel useful, important, and valued? If not, it may be time to channel your time into things and habits that better serve your needs. Be particular and critical as you work to break bad habits and form new, good ones. Identify the ones you want to change, specifically defining why you want to and how you’re going to change them. It’s the little details that add up!

03 Focus on surrounding yourself with things that make you feel good

It’s no secret that Virgos love a good aesthetic. The reasoning spans far beyond the surface level, despite what some may think. It’s much less about impressing others, and so much more about feeling comfortable and at peace in your space. One of the greatest things I preach is that life is about connection, not collection. When your physical space makes you feel good, it can actually contribute to reducing stress or “mental clutter” that exists in your brain. We forget how connected our surroundings are to our overall well being, but getting these in line is one of the things Virgos pride themselves on.

04 Embrace the structure in your schedule, filling in gaps where you can

Virgos are nothing if not practical! To maximize your productivity throughout the day, look at the existing structure in your schedule. Where do you have free time or lack concrete plans? This doesn’t have to truly mean adding in physical or mental labor anywhere you have downtime. Instead, it might look like making time to pick up a new book to read, or talking to a friend on the phone.

05 Look for creative solutions to the more chaotic elements of your daily life

Virgos are said to be “idea” people. Even if you don’t view yourself as the most creative person, you can still strive to think outside the box as you relieve some of the chaos in your life! Find patterns where there are none, and connect dots between how you operate vs. how you would like to. When you think about yourself in a more critical way, you may actually come up with unconventional quick fixes that can calm the chaos in your daily life.

Just to keep it 100% real, my desire to be go go go all the time is also something I’m constantly checking in with. I often have to remind myself that life doesn’t need to be so fast paced all the time. I love the hard working nature of my life, but these days, I’m working on less doing and more going with the flow. Of course, this is not to say that every Virgo embodies these qualities, or that anyone born outside of August/September birthdays couldn’t. In fact, I view horoscopes as a fun way to feel a sense of belonging and understanding.  In the zodiac world, Virgos have been stereotyped as organized, and I’m simply highlighting some of the “typical” traits we have in an effort to inspire you in a creative way! Now, let’s embrace the Virgo in all of us as we work to streamline our lives!
