Organizing Lauren Lane's Nursery

It’s no secret that we love to organize a nursery. There are few things more exciting than helping a growing family create systems that will make the newborn phase as breezy as possible. Not to mention, file folding tiny onesies is the absolute sweetest! Lauren Lane is a dear friend of mine and she and her husband Chris are expecting their first baby by the end of the month. We’ve organized for Lauren multiple times—first when she still lived in LA, then when she and Chris moved to Nashville—so helping them streamline their nursery was a no brainer! Plus, at 8 months pregnant, we figured she wouldn’t mind having one less thing to worry about.

From the start, Lauren had mentioned that the nursery’s closet didn’t have the ideal layout and was open to building the closet out. After seeing the space, I let her know that we didn’t have to!

Babies & kiddos don’t need much hanging space, so where there was a second hanging rod, we added in free standing drawers for folded clothes & backstock items to live. The beauty of the drawers is that they can be adjusted, added to, or removed as needed once Lauren has established her routine with the baby. We also added a bag hook for her baby travel bag, but if she finds that she wants more drawers later on, the bags can also be stored on the wall with Command hooks. The key in creating these systems is to keep change in mind as you set the foundation!

Lastly in the closet, we added an over-the-door rack to contain smaller items. These are a wonderful product to maximize a smaller space. You can completely customize them by size to accommodate your inventory, and we did just that for Lauren. We used organizer cups to micro sort within each rack for an added element of organization and super streamlined systems!

For the changing table, we placed diapers on one side of one of the top drawers, and added drawer dividers into the other side for changing essentials (i.e. diaper cream, lotions, balms). In the other top drawer, we file folded socks and onesies. The rest of the drawers were a file folded  dream! All the onesies, pajama sets, burp clothes and swaddles were folded with a double label! We sometimes like to add both a label on the lip of the drawer as well as rod dividers between sizes. Rod dividers are great because you can move them however you need as your inventory grows and changes over time, but they keep things super easy to find.

We were so excited to do this special project for the Lanes and cannot wait for the arrival of Baby Lane! Don’t forget to enter the amazing giveaway we’re doing with Lauren on her Instagram! We’re teaming up to give away 2 $500 gift cards to The Container Store! The giveaway ends on Monday, May 31st!

Of course, things may change once Lauren and Chris have had some time to live in the system, but the organization will stay in place with the flexible foundation that we set! As baby grows and thrives, so will his nursery!
