Restructure Your Space For Fall

Can you feel it? The gentle breeze, the holiday excitement, and the anticipation for a new season filled with new beginnings. Does anybody else love the excuse of a new season to declutter, clean, & restructure your space? When it comes to steps for a Spring cleaning or a fresh Fall, it’s the small simple changes that make all the difference. Especially when it comes to Fall, I love to have this time to set my home up for cozy months ahead. I love to encourage others to use the new season to set up systems and rituals around your home that bring you joy. Keep reading for my top tips and products to restructure your space for fall!

Establish A Fall Cleaning Checklist

Ignored any household chores because you were on summer vacation? Don’t be hard on yourself, we’ve ALL been there! Create a list of areas and items that need to be cleaned, repaired, and inspected. Especially with months getting colder, I like to start with outdoor tasks (when we still have a little summer warmth) and then move inside. An example of some tasks on your checklist could be to clean and store outdoor furniture, service and store gardening equipment, prep pools for winter, wash windows (interior and exterior), change smoke detector batteries, clean/replace air filters, and deep clean inside the house. Check out our tips for creating a full Fall Cleaning Checklist.

Put Out-Of-Season Items Into Storage Or Donate

Time to store any Summer clothes and start to inspect your Winter wardrobe. I always recommend having the prime real-estate in your closet left for your favorite pieces that fit the season. Also, sift through the Winter clothes you have from last year and donate any of the pieces that won’t serve you this coming year (don’t just keep them to keep them)! I love baskets like these and boxes like these for storing Summer clothes until warmer months!

Bring In The Smell Of Fall

There’s no better way to make your home feel like Fall than when it smells like Fall. Its scents like amber, fig and pumpkin that make me crave a snug Sunday morning. Choose whatever scent that you love, but here are a few scents I will have in my home all season long.

  • Pumpkin

  • Vanilla

  • Cinnamon

  • Pine or Cedar

  • Cranberry

  • Apple

  • Fig

  • Warm Spice

Bonus points if the candle is in a cute and aesthetic ceramic jar! Take a peek at Life In Jeneral’s favorite candles here.

Do a Pantry Cleanout

It’s no secret that our taste buds change from season to season. Take the time to look through your pantry, check for expiration dates, and EDIT. Donate or get rid of (if it’s expired) any Summer items that will just sit and gather dust. Once you’ve edited down, it’s time for my favorite part, FALL FOOD. Add in the warm spices, Fall produce, and pumpkin baked goods that bring you joy (and get you excited for the season)! I also love the look of a bowl of Fall fruit on the countertop for easy decor. Squash, red pears, and figs are a few of my favorites!

Add Some Fall-Themed Decor

Before you buy, see what items you can source around your home for Fall decor. Most of the time, we can find items that just need a little sprucing and updating. If you are looking for a couple of Fall pieces to add to your place, here are some of our favorites:

I hope this helps you indulge in this time of year with a space that matches the cozy mood! Keep an eye out for our IG reels, we have some special Fall content coming soon!
