7 Easy Weekend Resets
Let’s be honest. We all want that feeling of clarity and structure going into Monday. With that, committing to the idea of cleaning and organizing every crevice of your home/life can be daunting (to say the least). Rather than an endless list of tasks, I am going to provide you with 7 simple steps you can do this weekend that will provide you with the reset you have been craving.
House Sweep With A Bin
All you need is 5-10 minutes for each room and a large bin. That’s it. Walk around each room tossing in any items that are out of place. The most common culprits here are kid’s toys, trash, work papers, mail, books, and coats. I like to go through the main drawers as well, doing a quick clutter-sweep, trying to toss, recycle, or catch all of the stragglers. Once your bin is full, put your belongings back where they belong. When it comes to mail or loose papers, open all of your mail at once, standing in between a recycling bin and a shredder. Any mail you are left with, take to your designated mail zone.
2. Laundry
It may seem obvious, but it’s so easy to overlook laundry or use the excuse “I will do it tomorrow.” Do it often, before it gets overwhelming. I love to do at least a few small loads on the weekend so I know I won’t have to stress about clean clothes during the work week. Here are a few of our laundry room organization favorites:
3. Meal Plan
Whether it’s fully prepping the meals and containing them, or simply planning your meals intentionally, meal planning will save you time and money. I love to use a little time to seek inspiration, and write out my meal plan. Not only are you more likely to eat cleaner, but you are far less likely to purchase all your meals. Structure out your plan, write one grocery list for everything you’ll need, and commit.
4. Organize A Small Space
If you know me, you know that I swear by the affirmation, “start small.” Especially when it comes to the organization journey, there is something so healing about taking the initiative and tackling one small space. It can be your medicine cabinet, bathroom drawer, joy drawer, spice cabinet, or cleaning out your fridge. I can guarantee you will feel empowered and so much lighter when you’re done. Take the time to go through the process of removing all contents, categorize & sort, discard & donate, add organizational systems, and maintain! If you are looking for some products to build a little structure to your small space drawers, these are some of my favorites:
5. Plan Your Week
If you read my previous blog post on my tips for creating a to-do list, you know I swear by making lists (for pretty much everything). Take the time to write out your priorities for the week, and schedule out the steps to make it happen. From there, I love to add in my social plans, workouts, and meals. It gives me the opportunity to look forward to my week and know exactly what I am working with!
6. Restock
Similar to the house sweep, I love to take a scan through the house with a pen and paper to see what is running low. For items that I keep in bulk in the garage (or other storage area), I will take the list to said area and gather all the items I need to stock up. Anything I am completely out of, I will add to the recurring grocery list in my phone. If I don’t have the time to go grocery shopping over the weekend, I will schedule it out the first chance I get. That way, I have the peace of mind of knowing when I will be going.
7. Disinfect
There’s no question that I love a good cleaning session. With that, when I want just a little boost or refresh, I immediately go to the forgotten areas. Computer keyboards, phones, steering wheels, mouses, and tv remotes are so often overlooked and usually need a little disinfection. I promise you that you will feel all the difference once you’ve done it.
I know with work, kids, social gathers, and holiday events, it can be tricky to schedule time to clear your space. With that, taking the time to do these 7 easy steps over the weekend will be the reset we all need!
